The Life Story Guy Paul D McDonagh
i use premium bonds to put the fun into an emergency fund Financial planners tell us to have around 3-6 months' worth of expenses in an easy-access savings account in case of emergencies, so having a small amount in premium bonds is effectively an emergency fund that could lead to a big cash win brbrApparently, Nationwide offers a kind of premium bond benefit if you open a savings account with them so perhaps it might even be worth seeing if they're still offering that as it would mean you get interest while having the chance of winning a cash prize, too
Comment from : The Life Story Guy Paul D McDonagh

Harry Holt
there are some good interest rates out there right now 5 to 6 brmuch better than premium bonds , even allowing for tax for most people

Imagine brWalking into a news agent on the first Saturday of the month ,buying 10 grands worth of lottery tickets and going home brYou sit and watch the lottery results ,and non of your tickets win brSo you walk back to the news agent tell the guy you have bought 10 grands worth of lottery tickets but non won ,so he says on that's not a problem ,I'll give you your 10k back brAnd he hands you back your 10k brAnd you leave his shop brbr4 weeks later you go back and buy 10ks worth of lottery tickets again brThis time you win 25 quid brYou go back to the shop and tell the guy you only won 25 quid brHe says ok brThere is your 25 quid brAnd there is your 10 grand back brAnd you leave the shop with your £10025

Stewart Rood
I have read many comments on here and it seems to me most are hoping to win big I just bought a fixed rate bond 5k with Halifax Not only do i get a good rate of return at 535 i am also entered into their monthly savers prize draw I don't expect to win in their draw however i have 10k in premium bonds and earn no interest and little expectation of winning big I have won several £25 prizes but of late nothing at all Also like others on here i was doing the National Lottery but now invest £25 monthly in premium bonds instead
Comment from : Stewart Rood

MJC
My grandmother bought me premium bonds when I was a baby now 68 YRS LATER I havn't won a penny £500 in 1955 was quite a sum If I cash them in I get £500 in 2023 is worth NOTHING A very bad investment indeed
Comment from : MJC

Andrew Mallard
I do wonder how truly transparent or ERNIE PBs really are, as they profess to be
Comment from : Andrew Mallard

Jamie Gothard
I invest in a lot of different stuff, my £25 a month I just look at as lottery tickets that just keep playing for life
Comment from : Jamie Gothard

Mike
PBs is a raffle with over 120 billion tickets entered, you do the odds of winning big
Comment from : Mike

FlyBoyGrounded

stinky thatsmyname
My sister sent me a message saying she remembered grandfather buying is all premium Bonds back in the 70s anyway she's looked into it and they are sending her paperwork out and if we grandchildren have got in the bonds it's going to be interesting
Comment from : stinky thatsmyname

Quokka Pirquish
Hmmm, I was on the fence, now thinking that £10,000 would be better invested in a dividend stock that might pay £800+
Comment from : Quokka Pirquish

atrixo
If you had put the money into Al Rayan bank for the year you would have made more than £400 so I'm struggling to understand
Comment from : atrixo

Gerry T
Now it's possible to get around 4 for 1 year fixed, I'd imagine unless you were lucky Premium Bonds wouldn't return as much
Comment from : Gerry T

Helen McConnell
Everyone says it’s rubbish but my mum gets a pretty good return on it companies to savers and low risk shares
Comment from : Helen McConnell

ric
in the ‘old’ days, last century, you use to have to wait 3 months before being entered into the draws 🤔
Comment from : ric

Comment from : John Titor

Random Bus & Train vids
Great video so I guess the more you put in the better chance you have to get prizes?
Comment from : Random Bus & Train vids

Chris F
The biggest advantage I see to Premium Bonds, is that it puts your money "Just" out of spending range If you need the money back you can get it quickly, but its far enough away that your not to tempted to spend it Plus you can also win prizes
Comment from : Chris F

Boris Johnson
I had £2000 in my premium bonds and won £75 in just a little over a year
Comment from : Boris Johnson

Nick Copperbottom
I like the app but they should show you your current balance Why don't they Is it because people would be more likely to take it out? 🤔
Comment from : Nick Copperbottom

Liam Welsh
I'm planning to switch to bonds I have only been doing ¢rypto but I believe bonds have way less volatility I don't get so much from the videos online🤦‍♀🤦‍♀ I'll need some guidance
Comment from : Liam Welsh

NH
Premium bonds are a decent option to keep easily accessible funds but a stock & shares ISA diversirly invested in products such as index funds is much better for long term growth
Comment from : NH

Paul Perrin
The best savings account I’ve got My winnings, which I re invest out performs any of my other savings accounts I have Only £25 winnings each time but seem to win more times a year than not 7 lots of £25 last year
Comment from : Paul Perrin

Michael Robinson
When I was born my grandfather kindly put £1000 into premium bonds for me I guess premium bonds were a new thing and he figured the tax free winnings might just be worth it In my mid 30's I eventually sold the premium bonds I'd "won" almost nothing over the years (about £100) and I received the £1000 back as a lump sum That £1000 in 1963 should of been worth about £10K with inflation etc Maybe I was just unlucky but I'd say you'd have to be insane to put money into premium bonds
Comment from : Michael Robinson

Avtar Singh
Hi, in your opnion - what would you recommend if the sum being invested around 70k? (I cant put it into land/property/assets as i need access to it immediatley when the time comes)

Comment from : Christopher Smith

Paul R
I won £10000 in June
Comment from : Paul R

Mark Lydon
So you lost 8 to inflation They are going to have to increase the win pool from the current average level which I think is 1
Comment from : Mark Lydon

KAXAR
I don't know if I am lucky or what Ever since I start reinvesting and buying £200 premium bonds every month, I win a £25 or £50 prize several times a year For 2022, I won in March, May, June and July a total of £175 Just wondering if I should invest the maximum amount and keep less in savings
Comment from : KAXAR

cocojojomarmie

Comment from : Jaanika Teider

Lucy Scotts
Can't put my money in bonds, very low interest rate with inflation affecting it too For £50k not even up to 1 For me I don't think it's worth it, I prefer investing in a place that will get reasonable returnsbrI’m currently building my finance and increasing my portfolio in the mean time with other source
Comment from : Lucy Scotts

Kushal Shah
Can you explain Holding vs Bond Value? When I am looking at the table of winners, there are these 2 columns and I cannot understand what each is for
Comment from : Kushal Shah

The green avenger
Are the big wins like hundreds of thousands or one million actually generally possible ? I've never heard of anyone winning a large amount in one month !
Comment from : The green avenger

Michael Bright
Likewise, I put an initial £10,000 in and won £200 in the first year Significantly more than in a bank I have subsequently won more than I would have got in interest from a bank
Comment from : Michael Bright

Unstable Alpaca
I've had 1000 in premium bonds for 5 years and got nothing
Comment from : Unstable Alpaca

The Old Wargamer
Andy, i have some inheritance coming in Are premium bonds the best option ? I am retired, i do not want to risk, stocks or precious metals Your point about easy access savings is what i have found I checked with my bank, and on the QT, the bank advisor actually put me onto PB, which is how i came to your channel The amount will be around £30k, should i invest all of that on PB, is there any risk ?
Comment from : The Old Wargamer

john hughes

Comment from : Steve S

Luvleyjubbly
Bought Premium Bonds years ago as a pie in the sky venture as the interest rate from the banks was a joke!brUsed to get regular wins, but once they halved the payout amount they gradually dropped and with the current situation in the UK they have virtually stopped Not what they used to be and with the current situation in the world I would spend and enjoy your money
Comment from : Luvleyjubbly

Brendan Scully
Down the pub is easier - and you can eat the prizes
Comment from : Brendan Scully

Rog5446

Kenneth Bowry
Well more you buy the better your chances, but not many people can afford such a sum I got £20 worth in 1962 and won nothing so my advice is steer will clear of this con trick if you are poor
Comment from : Kenneth Bowry

tom kent
I've averaged just over 15, so I'm happy
Comment from : tom kent

MDA
Did you buy £10,000 at once with all consecutive numbers or spread through several applications to vary the numbers? And would that make any difference to frequency of wins?
Comment from : MDA

JUNG Somewhat
My goodness you lot are easily satisfied, just check out any boot sale on a summers morning you would double your money by selling any old tack, but i guess that would feel like work

Comment from : Zed Zed

David Bateman
yeh i generaly win £50-100 each year on my bonds, savings accounts are a waste of time at the moment I just re-invest it automatically into more bonds each time i win
Comment from : David Bateman

Andy Freestone
When I was saving the deposit for my home I tried the premium bonds It took me two years to save £50K deposit all of which I saved in premium bonds I didn't win a single penny
Comment from : Andy Freestone

whu58
Disgusting, I ve had £25 in premium bonds since my dad bought them for me in the 1960`s when I was a kid, I ve won nothing since due to the fact that the rules allow people buy them as investments - They should of changed the rules to allow a purchase limit of £100
Comment from : whu58

geoff wyness
Nope,had£10K in them for 40 years & won fuck all
Comment from : geoff wyness

tectorama
My wife and I both have the full amount allowed £50k one of us will win something most monthsbrThey are drawn on the second working day each month, and is something to look forward tobrAnother reasonably investment worth looking at are the Government Bonds You can't touch the moneybrfor three years once invested, but it does give a fair rate of interest
Comment from : tectorama

David Dawson
Really when inflation is well over 5 you should not be putting your money into Premium bonds Yep there might be the rare particular case where it makes sense but Andy please try to ensure you let people know they LOSE LOSE LOSE with premium bonds Your better off buying tins of food and storing them
Comment from : David Dawson

paulw1113
It’s also worth noting that the wins on the Premium Bonds are also completely tax free For me they have been a great investment over the past 3 years
